Member Spotlight: Carl Alexander

Carl Alexander is a PHP developer from Montréal, Canada. He’s the solo founder of Ymir, a serverless DevOps platform for WordPress.

He also has a website where he publishes articles regularly. It’s his way to help the WordPress community with these hard-to-learn topics. It’s also why he was excited to speak at WordCamp Asia in 2023. It’s another way for him to help the WordPress community.

Besides that, he was WordPress Montréal organizer from 2010 to 2020. He also helped organize other WordPress events during the year. You can find him on Twitter and GitHub.

What do you enjoy most about working in WordPress?

The people! Both online and offline, WordPress has some of the coolest people from such a wide range of backgrounds. From privacy lawyers to trauma surgeons who build plugins as a hobby to everyone in between, I’ve never seen a tech community this diverse.

What do you love most about your Post Status membership?

I can’t think of a better watering hole for the WordPress community.

– Need help with one of the popular WordPress plugins? There’s someone there who works on it.
– Have a deep question on the internals of WordPress? There’s a dozen people who know core like the back of their hand who can answer you.
– Wondering how to run a WordPress business? There are people from small agency owners to large plugin company owners around to help you.

It’s some of the best money to spend in WordPress if you’re looking to network online. So don’t skimp on it 💖

What business/web/WordPress advice do you have for others in our industry?

To be honest, I don’t know if I’m the best person to give advice. 🤣

I’d say maybe try to be authentic, willing to learn and don’t be scared to show your stumbles in public. I’ve been building Ymir in public, sharing year in reviews and just being transparent. It seems to have worked out for me.

But maybe that’s survivorship bias. 😅
